This blogs is about our decade long fight against infertility, primarily because of severe ologospermia or azoospermia, meaning almost nil sperms in male. We are a typical Indian family with traditional values, so we have tried almost everything for this problem. Be it medicine, yoga, pranayam, ayurveda, panchakarma, alternative treatments, temples, saints, imported supplements, operations, experimental medicines, you name it and we have probably done it.
It is a long story, worth telling over bits and pieces. We lived in a constant battle for 10 long years, and I feel the story deserves to be told in its glory.
However, for those of you who are suffering from male infertility issues, especially obtrusive/ non obtrusive oligospermia or azoospermia, let me save you a lot of time and tell you: forget everything else and first go visit an andrologist. He/she will be the best and perhaps the person to guide you. Don’t worry, not having enough or even any sperms doesn’t make you any less of a man. But your wife’s biological clock is ticking. After some years, her eggs will be older, her uterus weaker as compared to today. Pregnancy complications increase as the age increases. In fact the chance of IVF working is given age wise as the woman crosses 35 years of age. DON’T waste your time on anything I mentioned above, trust me. I have spent lakhs of rupees and years running from post to pillar, hoping something would magically turn on the sperm production.
Your only hope is an andrologist, who may decide to risk an operation called ‘vericocelectomy’, which may work in your favor. If it doesn’t, then take his advice and go for IVF. The techniques are far modern than any of our seniors can even begin to understand. Don’t get disheartened by any bad result, I have been continously hearing bad result for 10 years.
You may have female or unexplained infertility issues. Even in that case, above advice holds.
Still, if you feel you should give above avenues a chance yourself, based on people’s review or any other factor, make sure you keep a timeline. Remember, there is nothing more advanced than IVF for fertility, so always keep a strict timeline for any other treatment. It takes three months for any medicine to show effect on sperms, so for any treatment, give a limit of 4 months max. If it doesn’t work, move on. Don’t waste your precious time trying same things, hoping different results.
